What does a typical tutoring session look like?

Sessions are generally 60 minutes and are tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual student. Depending on the goals and needs of the student, time is spent focused on any number of skills and tasks. When I am working with struggling or reluctant readers, an hour session might include fluency practice, vocabulary development, practice of reading comprehension strategies and organized writing or note-taking. When I am working with an older student who is needing extra organizational support, the hour may be spent identifying and prioritizing assignments, then breaking larger assignments down into more manageable, focused tasks.

My goal for each session is that the student finds the practice meaningful and personally relevant, and leaves feeling successful and confident. My goal as a tutor is to work myself out of a job with each student by teaching students the skills they need to be independently successful.

In light of the Coronavirus, I now tutor virtually (through Google Meets, Zoom and FaceTime).  My rate is $90/hour, with discounts available to families of more than one student, or for students who have more than one session per week.
